BLACK - SUSTAiNABLE URBAN ARCHITECTURE
The group of talented individuals that make up Black all share the common aim to design and realise buildings that they are proud to say are ours. They work in one studio where they can share ideas and stimulate our creativity.”The clear geometric form is the one most clearly comprehended and its basic elements are the circle, square and the triangle.Every possible form lies dormant in these three formal elements.”Their buildings don’t start with a solution, they start with a journey. It’s on a path that they take all their clients along to make sure they all know how the solutions have evolved. The process is analytical; it assesses the client’s needs, the potential of the site and the impact of proposals upon the environment. The design that emerges is questioned, if it fails the tests we set, they start again.
They are problem solvers. Their work is all about finding solutions that deliver Sustainable Urban Architecture. The challenge is complex, but the approach is simple. They have always aimed to design buildings that minimise their impact on the environment through the philosophy of reduce, reuse, recycle to balance this against the need to enhance the public realm and achieve economic viability for all their clients. This awkward, triangular site required creative thinking to achieve a commercial building backing onto a residential estate.Parking at ground floor with the sales floor elevated to the height of the A3 flyover inspired the creation of a SuperShopfront containing the travellators and lifts to transport customers.
